Scarab BeetleYou and I are not two. In the identity of form, in the origin and in the end, we are one

I am responsible for your evil and your good , for your truth and your falsehood.  I can do nothing to change you now, but I can improve you by improving myself.

Saturn
Wednesday evening at the Griffith observatory, Los Angeles California.  Accompanied by many more space spectators than I had anticipated, and a couple post dinner companions, I attempted to view the heavens above LA.

Unfortunately the cards were stacked against me, what I did see was a photogenic vantage of the Los Angeles valley.  And, though I missed the large telescope by a couple minutes, I did get a short glimpse of Saturn from the portable telescopes on the lawn.

Shaky as it was, there it was.  Rings and all.  I stood back from the telescope to locate the speck in the sky.  Barely visible above the smog layer and light pollution was the distant planet, Saturn, looming in the North Western sky.

Osiris, as this planet was anthropomorphized by the ancient mind, was the god and planet Saturn to the Egyptians.  Though he went by other names to other cultures, the story is the same.  To the Greeks the name was Kronos, and the god planet was associated with the underworld, or more specifically the emergence from the underworld after the natural rejuvenation of life.  Associated with the harvest and the sickle, and later translated into the Roman god Saturn.

Researching the topic I found myself upon this book; "In the Beginning" by I. VelikovskyHere is the online version of that book, edited by Jan Sammer

According to Velikovsky's studies of ancient myths, battles were waged, literally, in the heavens above our heads.  While humans even then inhabited the earth in these ancient times, the earth took part on the cosmic battlefield.

Ancient myths attest to a battle between Jupiter and Saturn.  As goes in one of the many stories of heavenly warfare; Saturn ruled the gods as the supreme power.  Then the father is usurped by the son, in an epic battle scenario.  Jupiter, the son of Saturn, conquers Saturn, during the time of the last deluge.

For many years following the mythical deluge on earth Saturn was not visible due to the ashes and dust in the air from the many volcanoes erupting during this catastrophic time.  Having been invisible for many years following the catastrophe, Saturn finally did re-emerge.

The resurrection of Saturn, from perceived death, profoundly effected the people and he became personified as the lord of the underworld.

Interestingly also, in the Egyptian myth, Isis (Jupiter) the spouse of Osiris (Saturn), wrapped him in swathing, perhaps facilitating his survival of the underworld during his insurrection.  Osiris (Saturn) was known as "the swathed," and the Egyptian mummification of the dead was a direct reference to this planet.
