Easter Bunny    America is an extension of Rome, which is then itself an extension of Babylon; plain and historically true.  Our traditions, our law and our language are what most prominently define us as Western people.  Having been separated by our Easterly counterparts some thousands of years ago, we live in front of a the backdrop of these elements, unconsciously as it were.

Every description, figure of speech and turn of phrase we use lives within the confines of our societal framework and our lingual boundaries.  Equally our beliefs and holidays.  Western seasonal celebrations merely disguise historical natural non-theistic cosmic homages.  with the cycles of our holidays returns my reflections on such days.  Why and whence they came?
It is important to realize also that for the majority of holidays, if not all, there once was a worldwide historical unity of understanding for that particular season or cosmic event; yet in our age we have political stories which are sectarian and dividing forces; politics which serve the Babylonian style system.  The unity of life has been sucked out of our seasonal celebrations through religions and politics.  (And to be fair and honest as an apolitical and non-religious author, I blame all cultures equally for the folly of the leaders, and the passivity of the masses.)

Holidays are really an amazing force of human energy, planetary alignments and raw forces of nature literally infuse global mankind with spirituality or emotional expression.  We colloquially say "I am in the holiday spirit."  But how hypocritical for a theist to say they have a spirit controlling their actions, as if overpowering their own; that would be in the vein of being possessed.

Anyway our holidays are just oozing ancient historical remnants, today is Good Friday, I take Easter into consideration.  Easter falls each year on the first full moon immediately following the vernal (spring) equinox; on this day the earths orbit equalizes the day and night for the first time since the cold winter.  This weekend's celebration is obviously a non-theistic spring ritual, with roots as old as mankind.  In the East China celebrates the Chinese New Year around this time, as well in Japan they celebrate the Shunbun no hi, a festival for the vernal equinox.

In ancient Rome the vernal equinox was celebrated with Dies sanguinis, or the Day of Blood; (this is well before biblical Jesus).  The right of this celebration involved bringing palm branches into a shrine, and for those representative elements to be worshiped as a god.  Exactly two days following this day, so the third day, the priests would surround the statue of Cibele (one of the many local gods).  The priests would slash their own backs with whips, and splatter their blood on this statue. Following this ritual the statue of the god, would then be baptised ceremoniously, by being taken to the river and washed.

Interestingly, Easter slowly became what it is through many years of politics, quite literally.  Today, I don't even have to recount the story, you know it by heart; complete with palms branches, temples, whipping, and baptism.  And also, interestingly, Easter is represented by the rabbit and decorated eggs.  The rabbit is most often attributed to ancient pagan mating rites.

The decorated eggs can be traced to pre-Grecco pagan rites and rituals.  The Babylonians, Persians & Egyptians all decorated and gifted eggs as part of the vernal equinox celebration ceremonies, paying homage to the egg as a symbol of earth's re-birth.

Figuring i'd take a look to see what Wikipedia had to say, I searched the Easter bunny, and was delighted to read this as the first sentence in the Easter Bunny entry:

"The Easter Bunny is a mythical character depicted as an anthropomorphic rabbit."

And then, as if on cue, we come full circle, to what I believe to be at the root of our humanity, our cross cultural capacity for greatness and elevations beyond constitution; the anthropomorphism of 'usness'.  Somewhere in our ancient human history, we anthropomorphized everything, to the point of universal clarity and truth.  Breaking up the calendar into seasons, ages, and eras of cosmic time.  And celebrating the observable cosmic arrangements.  Today we are blinded by stories of untruth, and have been dragged as humans through dark ages of mankind, we forgot and now are slowly re-learning ... ourselves.

Holiday celebrations once spiritual, esoteric gestures in principle and message; are now scattered materialistic stories lacking any unity or global celebration.  And like politics, from where these stories originated, there is no room for abstractions of thought or esoteric sentiments.  There is only the 'official' written record, which it is plain to see, has massive amounts fundamental problems; namely the winners of wars and the ruling elite have written all the history we know; and the remainder of truth religion has burned; replacing ancient knowledge with materialistic propaganda.

So what is Easter? Easter is nothing, the vernal equinox is the celebration.  And it is a celebration of rebirth, of the Earth, all the plants on it, of a new year, a new time for sowing; looking forward to another harvest time to come.  A new dawn on a new summer, with long days of sunshine and outdoor activity.  A new time for mating and exploration for youth, and comfort of the warm sun for the elderly.   Good Friday is nothing but political colloquialism, and Palm Sunday just rings bells of pagan blood splattering.

The positive vibrations of seasonal phases are the true spirits of the celestial forces, though it is hard to separate subtle forces from the noise of industrialized societal materialism.  This weekend, importantly, is a full moon, the first one of this year's new Summer.  We celebrate because the long days of summer have arrived, and we can count on plants and wildlife to grow and procreate, and the cold weather to recede. In our human'ness we have a connection, intimately, with our earth and cosmos.  It's not religious, but spiritual, as an extension of our senses and our intuition.
