In 1976 Robert Temple wrote the Sirius Mystery, a revolutionary view of the Dogon tribe folowing a line of study started in the 30's by the French anthropologist Marcel Griaule. It is purported that the mysterious Dogon people, inhabitants of the central plateau region of Mali, have passed down knowledge from ancient times regarding the star Sirius.
The 400,000+ population of Dogon live in a remote region of West Africa, that has been untouched for many centuries, however they seem to posess advanced astronomical information about the star system involving Sirius. Temple argued that the Dogon's information, if traced back to ancient Egyptian sources and myth, indicated an extraterrestrial transmission of knowledge of the stars. I'm not saying aliens are coming from the stars wearing fishsuits to rescue us from 2012; But, it is very interesting if this culture does harbor some remnants of an acient knowledge witch includes precise astronomical information. Especially with the important role Sirius may turn out to play in the precession of the equinoxes here on earth (re: Walter Cruttendon's work and CPAK).
